Mechatronics Engineer · Applications Engineer, HVAC & MEP
I'm a Mechatronics Engineer with 12+ years across MEP project engineering, consultant-side submittal review, facility maintenance engineering, and now technical sales. BuildMEP is my attempt to fix a gap I kept running into: engineering content written by people who've never actually specified this equipment, written these control sequences, or pushed a submittal through a real project.
Professional Background
My career has moved through most of the seats around an MEP project — executing HVAC and MEP installations on commercial and high-rise developments, reviewing and approving contractor submittals from the consultant side, designing fire protection systems checked against UL and FM standards, keeping HVAC systems running in occupied healthcare and food-industry facilities, and now preparing techno-commercial proposals and engineering alternative product solutions in technical sales. I hold a B.Tech in Mechatronics Engineering.
That's the practical lens behind everything on this site — actuator replacements, valve sizing, BMS control signals, gas detection — these aren't topics I researched cold to fill a page; they're the kind of decisions I've actually had to make, defend to a consultant, or document in a compliance submission on a real project.
Engineering Philosophy
I'd rather be precise than impressive. A lot of engineering content online optimizes for sounding authoritative; I try to optimize for being checkable — real formulas, real code references, worked examples, and an honest "here's where this varies, verify against your specific adopted code" instead of false universal numbers. If a claim on this site can't survive someone checking it against a manufacturer datasheet or a standard, it shouldn't be on the site.
Why BuildMEP Was Created
Throughout my career, the engineering knowledge I needed was scattered — a manufacturer's cross-reference PDF here, a forum thread there, a standard's fine print somewhere else, and often nothing at all connecting them. Simple, practical questions ("what's actually different between these two actuators," "how do I size this correctly," "what does this spec line actually mean") kept taking longer to answer than they should have. BuildMEP exists to put that scattered knowledge in one place, written the way I'd want to find it.
Challenges That Inspired It
Most engineering content aimed at this audience falls into one of two traps: generic listicles written by people with no field experience, or affiliate-driven "reviews" optimized to sell rather than to actually inform a selection decision. Neither respects the reader's time or intelligence. The other recurring gap: articles that use a term — valve authority, PICV, spring return, differential pressure — constantly, without ever actually explaining what it means, leaving the reader to either already know it or go elsewhere to find out.
Mission — Give MEP and HVAC engineers, technicians, and facility managers practical, field-grounded knowledge and free engineering tools that actually save time on real work — not generic explainers optimized to rank, but content written the way one engineer would explain it to another.
Vision
The goal is for BuildMEP to become the site an MEP engineer bookmarks and actually returns to — not for opinion content, but because the calculators save real time and the guides answer the specific question that sent them searching in the first place.
Who It's For
BuildMEP is built for MEP and HVAC engineers, facility managers, and contractors, wherever they're working — practitioners, not hobbyists, looking for answers grounded in real field experience rather than generic explainers.
Long-Term Goals
Long-term, BuildMEP is meant to become a complete guidance resource for material selection — not just "what replaces this obsolete part," but why a given alternative is a genuine equivalent rather than the nearest match on a spec sheet. Alongside that, the plan is to make the binding codes that actually govern this work — NFPA, BS, IBC, and similar standards — understandable in plain engineering language instead of dense code text, and to keep expanding the site's calculator library so more of the day-to-day engineering math lives here, built on real engineering principles rather than rules of thumb.
Core Values
Accuracy Over Confidence
A number presented with the wrong certainty is worse than no number at all — every spec, formula, and threshold here is meant to be checkable against a real source.
Field-Tested Over Theoretical
Content here comes from decisions that had to actually be made on real projects, not just researched for an article.
No Fluff
If a sentence doesn't help someone make a decision or understand something faster, it doesn't belong on the page.
Engineer-to-Engineer Honesty
Where something genuinely varies by code edition, manufacturer, or local amendment, this site says so instead of pretending there's one universal number.
What Makes BuildMEP Different
Most sites in this space are written to rank, not to help — generic structure, vague claims, and affiliate incentives that shape what gets recommended. BuildMEP is independent, written from real applications-engineering experience, and increasingly built with AI-assisted research and drafting — every article is researched from manufacturer documentation and engineering standards, then reviewed and directed by me before it's published. That's not a detail I'm hiding; it's part of how a small, independent site can cover this much ground without cutting corners on accuracy.
